Teen Pregnancy and Married at a Young Age
Teen pregnancy is an underage pregnancy that often occurs to teenagers. It is usually around the age of 12-19. In other words, they can become pregnant before they reach age of 20. We can find so many cases of teen pregnancy nowadays, and most of the teen pregnancies in the world appear to be unplanned. These cases happen of course because of several factors. The factors are the financial or economic factor, low education, and culture.
Marriage at a young age usually occurs because of the family living in a poverty line. To ease that poverty burden, the girl’s parents then force their child to marry with a well-established man. This will certainly good for the girl and also her parents. The girl can get a decent life and the burden of her parents could be reduced.
The second factor is low levels of parental education, children, and the community makes early marriage are increasing. In my opinion, 9 years education can be used as one of the ways to solve this problem. For example, if a child starts to study at the age of 6, then when he/she completes the education program, he/she has already been 15 years. At the age of 15, a child must have stable emotional state. Moreover, if we can continue the 12 years education program. If the education program compulsory is executed well, the number of early marriage must be reduced.
The last factor is because of the culture. In some regions, there is a traditional culture for girls to married at a young age. And this factor is more common in traditional villages than in cities. It is because of the parents of the girl afraid that their daughter will become the old maid. In order not to be an old maid, the girl’s parents then force their daughter to married at a young age.
At the end, living in a poverty, lack of education and difference culture will resulting teen pregnancy. And those three things also caused them to married at young age.
